 How to

 Adopt

Our Goldens

This is a partial list of the dogs we have available for adoption.  There is no guarantee how long each dog will remain available, but the list is typical of the dogs we normally have available for adoption.

RATHER THAN WAITING UNTIL YOU SEE A GOLDEN POSTED THAT YOU ARE INTERESTED IN, WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU COMPLETE THE ADOPTION APPLICATION as soon as possible. THE APPROVAL PROCESS COULD TAKE SEVERAL WEEKS.  By the time your application process is completed, many of the Goldens you see on this web site will have been adopted.

We have dogs coming into SEVA GRREAT and being adopted out every week.  So, it is impossible to keep this list completely accurate.  Golden Days Open House is held each month.  Although no dogs are actually adopted out at these public events, it is an excellent way to see the dogs and talk to the foster family about each dog.  We cannot guarantee which dogs will be at the Golden Days Open House.

If you are interested in any of the dogs on this listing, please select the option "How to Adopt" on the left hand side of this page.

In order to adopt one of our Goldens, you must live in our service area, which is limited to Southeastern Virginia.  If you live elsewhere, we recommend you check the nationwide list of Golden Retriever Rescues, which is maintained on the Golden Retriever Club of America-National Rescue Society and Golden Retrievers in Cyberspace websites.

FENCED IN YARD - All dogs need a fenced in yard.  Active dogs need an area large enough to really run and stretch their legs.

SENIOR PROGRAM - Available for dogs 9 years and older.  This program allows dogs to be adopted with a reduced adoption fee.

CODY 4 year-old neutered male
One sweet, cuddly, 76 pound, blonde male in search of a loving, energetic family!  Guaranteed to put a smile on your face and make you laugh.  This guy has an awesome, enthusiastic personality and is loads of fun to have around the house.  He loves going for walks and does very well using an easy walk harness.   Cody likes any toy that squeaks.  He can be trusted in the house for a normal work day and will greet you happily with a toy when you come home!  Cody has shown no interest in the cat and does well with other dogs.  When you are home, Cody would prefer that you not slip out of his sight for long and will follow you around to make sure he doesn't lose you!  He rarely barks and knows his basic commands, although "stay" still needs some work.  Although Cody has not been exposed to children in his foster home, he would do well with older children that he can't knock over.  His exuberance may be too much for young children not steady on their feet.  Cody has lots of love to give and can't wait to find his forever home.

DUTCH 11 year-old neutered male

Dutch is an 11 year old neutered male who is looking for someone to share his "golden" days with.  Dutch is a very easy going, laid back guy who just wants someone to pet him and love on him.  Dutch is totally housetrained and does not require a crate.  He is left alone with his 2 foster sisters with the run of the house with no problems.  Dutch gets along with dogs (of all sizes), cats and children- nothing much fazes him!  Dutch enjoys going for car rides, chewing on a bone and walks. Initially, when Dutch arrived at his foster home he was a little depressed, but has since settled into the routine of his foster home.  According to the vet, Dutch is a healthy boy who needs to lose about 10-15 pounds which he is working on.  Dutch knows his basic commands, but will ignore his foster mom when he doesn't want to come back into the house.  If you are looking for an older gentleman who will easily "go with the flow", Dutch is the one!

DUKE 6-year old neutered male
Duke is a beautiful, 6 year old, neutered male golden.  He is darker in color with wonderful, expressive light brown eyes.  Duke was abandoned by his homeless owner.  At first he was a little timid, and doubtful of his foster parents, and his foster golden sister.  Through love and continuous reassurance, he has come into his own.  He loves to play with his toys, chew his bone, and fetch the ball.  He is house broken, and has been left up to 8 hours without an accident.  Duke does not seem to have a lot of time on a leash, and therefore, is now in training with a gentle leader.  He is doing very well.  Duke is exceptionally strong, and it would be best if he continued on the gentle leader.  He loves to be petted and will lay his head in your lap to remind  you to continue.  He is very good about being fed.  He waits patiently for you to put his bowl down.  He will gently take a treat from your hand. He is a bit of a sloppy drinker though!  He also is a bit of a beggar around the dinner table, but not pestering.  We are working on this. He follows commands as sit, shake, and come (most of the time!).  We are working on down and stay.  Duke is an excellent car rider and loves to go for rides.  He has not had a lot of exposure to small children, but has done fine around his 10 yr. old "brother".  He has not been exposed to cats with his foster family, so we don't know how he would be.  Duke is a loveable, sweet boy and will make a wonderful addition to any family!

DODGER 8-year old neutered male

Dodger has a very thick, soft fur coat with a rich golden color.  He is very cuddly and nice to hug!  He is alert and spunky for an 9 year old guy!  He loves to play this with his foster family, including young children, and their two dogs.  Dodger requires a fenced yard (no electric fences please) if you are interested in adopting him.  His age only shows in a slightly slower run and a slowness on stairs.  Because of this, Dodger would love a ranch/one-level home or a setting where the main living area is on the first floor.  Dodger enjoys walks and car rides.  He is good with sit, down, and waiting in a down position until okay to get his food.  He is fully housebroken and can be left up to 9 hours inside without accidents.

GRACIE  7 month-old spayed female
READ MY HARROWING STORY

Gracie is wonderful 6 month old puppy, full of life and joy.  She is sweet, well mannered, and smart!  She plays with reckless abandon and has won over the hearts of everyone who comes in contact with her.  She loves to play outside and chase lightning bugs.  Sadly, Gracie was abandoned by a breeder.  She had corrective surgery by a vet in Richmond before SEVA GRREAT took her in for an anatomical abnormality which affected the way her kidney passes the urine to her ureters.  It bypassed the holding cell of her bladder and left her with problems controlling urination.  Now, Gracie's foster mom notes that she goes outside and goes "potty" on a regular basis like any good puppy but will dribble when she is taking a break from playing.  She wears a diaper on when she is in the house and when she falls asleep she is so relaxed she urinates in her diaper.  This only affects her urine continence; she is able to hold her bowels.  Gracie is under the care of our vets and NC State Hospital to provide her with the best possible solution.   In the meantime, Gracie is looking for a family with a special heart and the means to provide for her medical care as she gets older.  If you are interested in adopting her, we will discuss the particulars of her medical situation and needs.

JAKE 1-year-old neutered male
Jake is a 1.5 year old neutered male.  Jake is a very sweet guy who SEVA GRREAT rescued from an animal control facility where he was picked up as a stray.  He has done very well in a home environment and is great with people of all ages.  He is housebroken and allowed to run free in the house, given trash is out of the way.   He walks well on the leash with his gentle leader and enjoys meeting new people.  He hasn't been around cats very much, but has greeted them with the curiosity of a puppy. He has been socialized with other dogs and made trips to the dog park and seems to handle himself fairly well with a few showings of dominance.  He likes to play and cuddle and will enjoy a family who will make him part of the family.   He is going to make a great family pet!
